This week Aidan had his keyboard recital. He is really enjoying music class.
Here's his piece, Ode To Joy.

Here's Amy with her first wiggly tooth........and here's Amy without her wiggly tooth! It took her a good 60 seconds or so to recover from the shock of having it come out, until the blood stopped! So then she comes down after we put her to bed, crying because she wants to put it back! She wasn't ready to grow up, she sobs. Of course we had to reassure her she won't wake up as a grown up tomorrow- she'll still be 6. And we told her she can hold on to it as long as she wants. We'll see how long that is...

Camping!!

Once again, Texas weather allows us to venture up to Garner for a few nights of camping. This trip, we brought Will's new hammock that he got for Christmas. We all had to take turns... we may need a few more of them!
We almost always forget something- toilet paper, pajamas, dish soap... This time it was the coffee maker. The coffee pot managed to make it into the supply load, but not the part that MAKES IT! Aidan suggested an invention (shocking!), so this is what he and I crafted together: I cut a water bottle in half. After flipping the top over, Aidan stuffed the coffee filter inside and added the coffee. We used clothespins to hold the edges so the grounds wouldn't fall into the coffee pot. Then I poured the boiling water in while Aidan held it steady and voila! Hot coffee, and happy Mama!!

The weather Saturday was gorgeous, especially later in the afternoon, so we leashed up the pooches and trekked down to the river for a little splash time. Amy fell in (it's become a tradition and she doesn't like to let us down) but rebounded after changing into dry clothes. You would think we'd just bring her an extra set with us by now... Maya got to swim a little, but I think the water was too cold for her since she only went in a few times. Both nights were unusually blustery and the grown ups didn't get much sleep, what with all the whipping, snapping, popping, and swishing of the tent. But it's always a nice getaway.

When we got home, as I was unpacking the food and supplies, I noticed our guinea pig, Lenny, was very quiet. I looked in at him, and right away I knew... he had died while we were gone. He had plenty of food and water and his cage was recently cleaned. We have no idea what happened, but Aidan was devastated. We buried our furry friend in the same place as Nickle, our first GP, in the yard and Will made a gravestone for him. He was a very sweet little guy and we will miss him.
A recent reward for Aidan working hard at school and getting all his work done:
dismantling our PC.

For his 29th birthday, Will got Guitar Hero. A middle-aged man's dream in 2009.

Rock on, dude.

Last week Amy's class finished their first book at music school. To celebrate they had a "concert" and pizza. Here's Amy playing her two pieces. The first is called "Roller coaster", and yes, it is just 3 notes. The second is "I am King" which she knows in her sleep, but she was VERY self-conscious with all the parents watching her. Nevermind that they are the same parents that watch her every week... Stage fright.
